Rare Babe Ruth Dodgers Uniform and Hank Aaron Jersey Headline Christie’s and Hunt Auctions Event

A recent Christie’s and Hunt Auctions event was a baseball lover’s dream, featuring rare and historic items that drew significant attention from collectors. The auction, which also included the Geddy Lee Collection, saw total sales of over $6.8 million, showcasing the robust market for one-of-a-kind baseball memorabilia.

One of the highlights of the auction was a 1938 Babe Ruth Brooklyn Dodgers road uniform, which fetched an impressive $882,000. This rare item, worn by the legendary player during his short stint with the Dodgers, captured the attention of collectors who were willing to pay top dollar for a piece of baseball history.

Another star of the auction was a significant 1968 Hank Aaron Atlanta Braves home jersey. This jersey, worn by Aaron when he hit his landmark 500th career home run, sold for a notable $567,000. The jersey represented a milestone moment in Aaron’s career, making it all the more valuable to collectors.

The auction also featured other notable items from the Geddy Lee Collection, which surpassed their estimated values by a wide margin. One standout item was a single-signed baseball by President Herbert Hoover, which fetched an astonishing $214,200, far exceeding its conservative estimate of $25,000. This unexpected result demonstrates the high demand for unique and historically significant pieces of memorabilia.

In addition, a Mickey Mantle-signed baseball with an inscription about Brooks Robinson’s play at third base from the same collection sold for $30,240. This item showcases the admiration and respect between two iconic players, adding an extra layer of uniqueness to the baseball.

Among the diverse array of items at the auction was a captivating photo from the Gladstone Collection. The photograph depicted Civil War soldiers posing with baseball equipment, serving as a fascinating snapshot of the intersection between sports and history. This piece achieved an impressive $113,400 at auction, surpassing its estimate of $10,000 by a wide margin.

David Hunt, President of Hunt Auctions, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to represent these extraordinary collections. He emphasized that the auction results not only showcase the strong market for baseball memorabilia but also highlight the immense value placed on items from significant private collections.

The success of the Christie’s and Hunt Auctions event demonstrates the enduring appeal of baseball memorabilia among collectors. From Babe Ruth’s iconic Dodgers uniform to Hank Aaron’s milestone jersey, these pieces not only represent key moments in baseball history but also hold significant sentimental and monetary value. With each auction, the market continues to prove its enthusiasm and passion for preserving and honoring the legacy of the sport.
